Sangam : Ethnic Day

On 25th of February 2017, Salesian College Siliguri celebrated their annual Ethnic day. The various clubs (Louis, Rinaldi, Rua, Albera, Mickey, Savio, Bosco and Mazzarello) were given themes i.e., cultures around India.

Based on their given culture they had to prepare a theme dance, participate in firewood cooking, fashion show, rangoli and face painting.

The programme commenced at 9 a.m in the morning. Fr. (Dr.) Mathew Pulingathil, the Rector of the College headed the assembly. He spoke about the diversity of our country and the importance of preserving our ethnicity. After the inauguration the venues for the various events were announced and the participants began their preparation. Each club got specific cultural themes i.e., Louis(Goa), Bosco(Assam), Mazzarello(Gujarati), Rinaldi(Tamil Nadu), Albera(Marathi), Savio(Punjab), Mickey(Uttarakhand) and Rua(Nepali).

For firewood cooking every club had two hours to prepare their respective cuisines which consisted of a starter, main course and a dessert. The face painting and rangoli competition were held simultaneously.These events showcased the creativity of the students with innovative designs and creative use of material. The fashion show was the most awaited event of the day and it lived up to everyones expectations. There was a variety of colourful ethnic wear from cultures around the country.

The winners of each event and the best club of the year was announced at the end of the day. Club Rua stood first for the best club of the year while Bosco won second place. The prize distibution cremony ended with a vote of thanks by the Principal of the college, Fr. (Prof.) George Thadathil. There was a dance session organised on the request of the students. The day ended with dance and music by 4 p.m.
